When I first got into finance a few years ago, until that time I have no ideas about business; so anything that was written in the textbook I worshiped. It was late in the course when I start learning more sophisticated models, such as Black Scholes, m&m, CAPM, and et cetera. I started to think and question the things I’m taught. If everything stand true to the text books why & how does the subprime happens? why does Bear Stern & Lehman brothers explode? How did LTCM with Nobel laureates manage to blow up? And most importantly to the people who wrote the textbooks; why aren’t their names on the Forbes rich list if they know so much?

I kept those questions, believing that those questions might be inappropriate to ask. It was until I sit and trade that I remembered those questions.

Many of those models are plagued with assumptions & predictions.

I understand that many of the math in those models are dumbed down to ease with hand calculations. But at the age where CPU has multiple cores, the capacities of RAMs are big enough to hold as many books as a small library; with such computing power, why are we holding on to those convenient assumptions? Why don't we just gather, crunch, and manipulate the actual outcome (the fact) of those events? Unfortunately there were few textbooks to turn to.

It was too late to change my major, but I was glad to be able to take that Decision Science class. Originally the field is call Operation management. History say it's developed during WWII to coordinate supplies. But that's another story for another time

Many technologies emerged since the last time I've posted. One of such developments, creating big phenomena in the cyber world is Twitter. At a first glance it looks convenient. But after a constant exposure to it I start to think differently.

Like many technologies available in the world, twitter is useful. Even now it is useful. The 140 word limit is nice, it force many to be concise. It is good to get new quickly, the speed in which the news flow to twitter quite speedy.

However, it's the user of the technology that decides that technology's reputation. The annoyance of Twitter hits me when some people that I followed thought they were rockstars; and start tweeting every 5 mins. It's worst than spam.

So I was forced to find myself a solution. First I unfollow those rockstars. Loosing one fan should hurt their feelings much, besides my twitter page looks much better without those unnecessary info like: where they are, what they are doing, which part of their body they are touching, who they are screwing, etc ,etc....

I'm still using twitter, I'm just much more picky that's all.

Earning an MBA in finance I realized that I should at least be able to explain the subject out in plain language to anyone who is interested in finance. After all everyone is working hard to earn money to spend to pay the expenses they incur.

This is a small yet lifelong project that I wanted to simplify the concepts of finance comparatively to many aspect of the current, modern society. Doing so I hope that I will be able to encourage people to invest correctly, not speculatively, according to their financial background and needs.

The product of this small project might become a platform of complimentary education to those who is interested in finance. Finance will no doubt evolve as other technologies became better. To be an adequate finance specialist it is my job to keep up. Hopefully I don't have to do this project alone, I might merge my effort with another friend who enjoy sharing knowledge to those who are interested. Doing something alone often driven me into biases, working as a team with diversity more than often eliminates biases; but merging is as of current only my idea there are much more talks and drinks before it would be a reality.

Before I type more I just wanna point out that this is kind of a free writing session. Free writing is just something like letting you mind run wild and you try to catch them with your fingers either buy writing or by typing. You're not suppose to stop to correct any gramatical errors nor to edit. It's suppost to be the first fresh ideas right out of our heads. This is a free writing about the fears of technologies that I have.

Imagine if we can choose not to die of old age, if we can extend our lives to infinity. We die when we got and accident or got a dieseas that cannot be cured, or simplied killed by someone or something. In a finance perspective that would be a perpetual income. Cashflow over discount rate, we would be around to work and pay our bills forever. I can't imagine how crazy the life insurance premium would be if we would have a limitless life span as such. how would the mortgage industry look like if we could spend an eternity paying for our house? How crazy would the house be? Since people can choose not to die imagine how crowded the streets will be? And will there be an immortal homeless bum?.... For some reason I still think there will... Space would be so limited. Or perhaps not everyone can afford an infinite life span. In perpetuity I learn that we can find the present value of an eternity. I guess the price of eternity might be very expensive, I still don't think the planet would have space for every generation. It would be weird if our grandma or great grandma look as young and charming as we are. If we are so far down the tree would we someday start hitting our own ancestors? How far could marriage go in eternity? How far could love? Questions questions questions. May be being immortal will bring us into some fragile condition that we are more prone to illness and dieseas. Since there are too much of us around, not everyone will be fed and most of us would die from famine? I still can't find a nice fairy tale happily ever after kind of ending for this situation should it happen. However I'm sure mommy nature will find her balance.

The summer was fine made some money, not sure what to do with it yet since I'm a ghost -achieving the risk free rate is almost impossible for a ghost-. It was better than I originally expected. Can't believe that I heard
that word this often. Compared to last year it was different. Still the
birthday of 2006 was the one of the most unique. This year I was too
nervous about the upcomingcarecareer fair.

Long absence

It was a very long while that I have posted. Haven't really got the time
:P to busy playing games and struggling with MBA.

Things haven't change much since the last post apart from the first GPA
was out; not bad, not it couldhave been better. And, I've learn to enjoy
solitary moments better than before.

A lot of confusion has happened, and I learn that the best approach to
deal with it is to let it go. I have spend more with myself than last
semester; seeking false friendships no more. No use to please anyone who don't care.

The best of all I've manage to use my PDA to a higher level of
efficiency. At least I figure out a edu to increase my input rate;
thanks to tengo. Most of the entries will be posted from the pda from
now on since the pc is for gaming :)

Half of the term are covered. Result are out I'm still clustered in the middle, so it's neither good nor bad. But, I'll need to do better. No one wants an average guy for their vacancy, do they? It's time to be more serious...REALLY!!!

Grad school also taught me that true friends are scarce. They are always ready to abandon you at any time for anything; for example, a girl, a job or just better grades. It is unfortunate for me that I'm those kind of people who really believe in friendship. This might be the best time to start learning not to!

Sacrifice the pawn for the queen!!!! I think I'll have to start playing chess again, there aren't that much to sacrifice in crossword games. Ciao for now!!!!

Wouldn't it be fun not be able to be reach for one day? To have all the time to yourself? Not having to worry that the cell phone is on silent mode or not? To have a break from expectations that someone in particular would call?

My friends took it for granted that they can reach me whenever they want in only one phone call or sometimes merely an SMS. I miss the time when there are no cell phones, people seems to be more committed to their words and they appreciate one another more than that of today.

Today is going to be my great adventure I will enjoy the freedom that I have lost ever since the invention and the marketing of the cell phone. My time today I keep it to myself. No one can steal my privacy today. Only the thought of it gave me the chills of excitement. I just can't help but wonder how many miss calls will I get when I got home; perhaps none.

Learning to scrutinize things that suppose to slip pass an average eye, I became some what sensitive. Sensitive and emotional are not on the same page of my dictionary. They have very different meaning ( at least to me ). Being emotional is to have emotion leading the brain, but being sensitve is the ability to experience things that average people are not aware of, or to have more scale in the measurement, or just to be more specific. For example, centimeter is more specific ( or in this case "accurate") than inch, or Farenheit is more specific than Celcius. I just receive more information from my senses ( or sensor ) that's all.

The end product of sensitivity sometimes are simliar to the symptoms of emotional, but it is different. Emotional people recieve as much information as normal people, but they process that infomation with their emotion not their brain and act accordingly.

Have been thinking about the old stuffs I've learnt long time ago. These are taught in the first class of all science courses. Every value we obtain are never accurate. Now that I'm writing more, I've been thinking alot about these terms. Can writing be precise and accurate? Concise statements don't have to be precise, and many times it is irrelevant (inaccurate). And, many time bulky paragrahps explain the point, but it would be better if it is shorter (unprecise).

Well it's time to take aim and adjust the scope.

Science taught me one thing... There's nothing ideal. 800 in GMAT does not promise success. My grade concious days are over. I care more about value. My value.

English is something I can spend my life time learning. Unless the language is dead like Latin, the learning never stops. Tests and standards are just outlines. It does not mean that your English is as perfect as native speakers. So, get over it, deal with it, and learn it.

Until the day I write like Shakespear, I still have alot more to learn.

Last Friday's lecture is one of the best lectures I've had in ages. The lecturer is from CAPS, although she's obviously nervous the ideas she conveyed into my head is very impacting.

From the list of values (ex. leadership, love, advancement, accomplishment, etc.) she asked us to pick our top five. Before getting the top five, there're a series of ranking for us to make. The outcome is a bit different that the initial five selections. I end up with

(Health) (Wealth) (Affection/Love) (Freedom) (Advancement)

After we get our top five values she ask us to throw away one of the values. And another. And another. Until we have only one left. The last decision is the hardest. I have two choices. One is logical. The other is emotional.

I chose the logical. The chosen choice surprise me greatly.

Hearing many class mates oppinion and point of view, it reminded of myself one year earlier. They way I think are just like them, cocky and always believing that I'm smart.

One year here changed my mind. I wanna learn to be better in and American university.
I don't wanna just graduate from an American University. I expect to gain more than a piece of paper(my degree. My English usage should improve significantly. I should be as competent as any Americans, and language should no longer be my obstacle.

The reason that many of the foreign students went home without a good career experience, in my opinion, is a result from their unimproved English. How many time in a day do you speak English? is it shorter than the time you speak you native language? Do you work, think or collaborate in English? You expect your writing to be the writing of professional? The answers might answer why certain foreign students did not go up in an American firm. Who wants someone who can't communicate clearly or write effectively be the director or CEO?

Negative experience from a not-so-smart foreign student became the new student from that nation's outline, or worst it became their road blocks. The road ahead are already filled with road blocks and restriction. This is sad. For many I don't care, for some I do. I hope I can convince the ones I care to get serious with English, at least writing for the sake of their own careers.

I've never venture that far south in my country. A lot of nice beaches are there in the souths, I just never have the time or the right companies. For this time, I might even go there by myself.

The sea is always timeless. The best part of it is the color of the sunset sky reflecting on the wet sand. It's a brief moment that I find worthy to wait for. No beaches beat my beaches. If they do... their foods aren't as good. XD

These few weeks are so hot, so hot that it reminds me much of BKK, the sea, and the FOODS!!!!! So envy of those who're going back. :'(

Although I'm not cut out to be a physicist, but being majored in it made me aware of one thing. I am aware of the 4th dimension -the first, second, and third are x,y, and z- the "t"; time. So the same person in t1 and t2 are basically different. In plain English; I'm not the same guy who you talk to 5 minutes or 2 day ago. I am alive and learning new things every passing second, so don't be attached to my past. I'm always going some where even when I'm sitting; time never stops.

This made me more content from negative behaviors of the people around me, some one can be bad 5 minutes ago and talking to me as if nothing had happen. I don't mind that, we're human, we're not perfect. However, I call people who can rapidly switch between 2 extremes (very emotional people who take personal things too seriously)"Unstable". From what I remember, unstable substances, have its "excited" stage where it will release its electrons. Since I hate radiations I tend to stay away from these type of substance (or these type of person).

Friendly relation will resume only after the hazardous radiation is depleted. Unfortunately, in certain cases the half life is quite long, and it take far longer than my life time to reduce only half of it.

I will be so surprise if anyone will understand this BS. Well, it's not here to be understood anyway. XD

Testicular self-examination

Because testicular cancer is a significant killer of teenage boys and grown men, doctors recommend monthly self-examination.

Men from puberty onwards should examine their testes after a hot shower or bath, when the scrotum is looser. They should first examine each testicle separately, feeling for lumps, and then compare them to see whether one is larger than the other. By doing this each month, males will become familiar with what is normal for them.

Their testicles should be examined by a doctor if they notice any of the following:

a lump in one testicle
pain or tenderness
blood in sperm during ejaculation (a small amount once is not necessarily cause for worry and rarely is caused by testicular cancer)
build-up of fluid in the scrotum
enlargement of the breasts
a change in the size of one testicle or the relative sizes of the two (but it is normal for one testicle to be slightly larger than the other)

Some symptoms are similar to those of a hydrocele testis, a pathology that also requires treatment, and should thus also be communicated to a doctor.

The Seven Bridges of Königsberg is a mathematics problem inspired by an actual place and situation. The city of Kaliningrad, Russia (at the time, Königsberg, Germany) is set on the Pregolya River, and included two large islands which were connected to each other and the mainland by seven bridges. The question is whether it is possible to walk with a route that crosses each bridge exactly once, and return to the starting point. In 1736, Leonhard Euler proved that it was not possible.

On the 5th semester of my undergrad life there's one required subject; Modern physics. I blame Einstein for all my trouble I had with this subject. However, it's the first time that I was introduced to the 4th dimension apart from (x,y,z) which is t (time). The exercise we have to endure suggest that an object in the same xyz coordinate,but in different t are considered different systems.

At this moment, the t of my origin stood still almost 60x60x24x356 sec.

The whole city is frozen solid in the frozen time of my memory.

which can be determine by simple math into the range of 101-102

However, due to the stiffer scale of the new iBT test which have the full score of 120 compared to the CBT's 300, iBT seems more difficult than CBT which more mistakes can be made (CBT; 300 - 253 = 47 iBT; 120-101 = 29) and the also the introduction of the new speaking part.

The speaking part, however, is a wild card that tends to increase your score if you are a common English learner not a Grammarian learner, who are adept only in grammar but not in speaking.

So basic math calculation can't be applied to the iBT, in stead a range is given. Since iBT is so new Baruch have yet any ideas about the appropriate range, all the told us was the eligible iBT scores to get admitted will be any scores that is more than 90.

The TOEFL preparation book are the same like stock options; right after the test they just loose their value. If the test was successful it's no longer needed, if the test is a failure the book is bad and we'd need a new one any way. I hope I'm okay with it though.

A Lesson Too Late: Closer

Just watched "Closer" on HBO a while ago, it reminds me a lot of the old me. Nothing as serious as the movie, but one of the character reminds me partly of my old self. If I have seen this movie at those times, the history I made would have been different (it's impossible since the movie was released on 2004). For most people it might be boring, but for me, it's a very delicate story brilliantly put together.

Yesterday I came across my level 8 writing teacher on the elevator. I greet him and started a conversation. I told him that I have found the problem about my writing, and it is the lack of vocabulary that was pulling me back. I continue telling him that I found it hard to describe certain emotions or events in to words since the numbers of English words in my head are limited.

I finnished my suggestions the moment we reached the ground floor. The teacher said, "I think your writings are good." "You're just a perfectionist." He added before we walked on our seperate ways after we reached the building front. How right he was! He totally see me through my writing. Or was it a lucky guess? In either cases, it was one of the best thing I heard that day. Hopefully, I will be less and less perfect.

I'm never ready, though I've read the book three times from cover to cover. I just need to learn to do things 100% in a limited time.

I felt empty...The thing that I have been dreading the whole lenght of the flight has happen. At that time I was young, I was naive. I have not an idea what to do. The spring chill of Munich that morning are nothing compared the chills that runs in my spine.

I knew it, there have to be some sort of trouble, since we're scheduled to arrive on a Sunday. Luckily I was not alone, Poy was with me. Since I was totally dumb-struck at the time, it was Poy's quick action that saved us from an expensive night in the hostel. She called her boss. I call mine, but he told me to stay in a nice place before meeting him on Monday; the next day.

Poy's employer and my employer were the same actually, the only difference was the campus since we are paid by TUM. It was Poy's boss quick action that brought us to my designated apartment. Not only that they manage to contakt IAESTE people on a Sunday, they also pick us up at the airport. Too bad my boss was so different.

Since that day, I promised myself to pick up as many incoming student as I can. I remember the empty feeling too well. As a matter of fact I made many friends picking up the exchange students. If a modern city like Munich could make me feel so empty, what chance will those incoming students have when they arrive in Bangkok? Diana was the first incoming that I picked up.

Kratong

Floating container which delivers our offerings to pay respect and also to thank the goddess of the river. A sort of Thai thanks giving + a Thai Valentine; it is call the "Loi Kratong" day. The Loi Kratong ceremony occurs on the night of the 12th moon, this year Loi Kratong day is the 16th November.

พอเสร็จกิจ พระก็เทน้ำถังนั้น แล้วจ้ำหนีฝูงยุง ไปศาลากรรมฐาน

เสร็จก็กลับกุฏิ แล้วเตรียมไปบิณฑ เนื่องจากหนาวจัด พระโบว์เลยห่ม 2 ชั้น

ขนาดญาติโยมยังใส่ jacket มาใส่บาตรเลย

พระไม่ได้ตัดกิเลสทำให้อุ่นกายจากพลังลมปราณได้นี่หว่า

ช่วงนั้นเป็นช่วงเวลาที่แจ่มใส่ที่สุด เพราะได้เห็นดวงจันทร์ลับฟ้า และรุ่งอรุณ ทุกวัน

อากาศเย็นสบายแต่วันนี้หนาวไปหน่อย เดินตั้งแต่ตี 5 ครึ่งยัน 7 โมงกว่าๆ

ทำให้เข้าใจหัวอกพระเวลาบินฑบาตร ได้เป็นอย่างดี

ไม่ต้องใส่บาตรหรอกแค่ช่วยพระถือของก็ เป็นบุญสุดๆ แล้ว

ที่ทำบุญกันเนี่ย พระแบกครับ จะให้ดีช่วยแบกด้วยจะได้บุญมาก

ต้องยอมรับว่าถ้าไม่ได้โยมชาย ที่อาสาขับตุ๊กๆ มารับพระสายบิณฑบาตรนี้ทุกวัน

พระคงเดินให้ญาติโยมใส่บาตรได้ไม่ไกลหรอก จะแบกของไหวได้ไง ย่ามจะแตกอยู่แล้ว...

ถ้าต้องแบกเองให้หมดต้องสัก 4 ย่าม มิน่า ทางเหนือเค้าถึงขี่ม้าบิณฑบาตร คนเค้าคงน้อย

ลำพังลูกศิษย์ที่ช่วยถือทุกวันเค้าก็ต้องทำมาหากิน เพราะเค้าก็เป็นพ่อค้ากันแถวนั้นแหละ

ที่เขาช่วยถืออะเขาเอาไปรวมใส่กะละมังไว้ให้ตุ๊กๆมารับไป

พอดีตุ๊กๆ ใจดี เลยรับพระกลับวัดไปด้วยทุกวัน ไม่ได้เมื่อยหรอกนะ แต่เดินเท่าป่าวอะ

หลวงพ่อห้ามใส่รองเท้า จะได้รู้ถึงความลำบาก อีกอย่างพระวัดนี้ไม่ใส่รองเท้าบิณฑบาตรกันสักรูป

คงเป็นกรรมเก่ามั้ง เพราะวันนึงพวกวัยรุ่นทุบตู้โทรศัพท์ กระจกแตกกระจายเต็มถนนเลย

เลยได้เลือดกันนิดหน่อย พอดีโยมเห็น อีกวันเค้าเลยกวาดทิ้งไปหมด เลยไม่ต้องย่ำกระจกกันอีก

ที่ประทับใจที่สุดคือ โยมชายอาสามาขับให้สายนี้ทุกวันเป็นปีๆ แล้ว

เค้าอายุมากกว่าเรา 2-3 ปีเองที่แน่ๆ เค้าไม่เที่ยวเตร่กลางคืนแน่ๆ ไม่งั้นตื่นไม่ไหวแน่

อย่างน้อยก็ตอนที่เราไปบิณฑบาตรแหละน่า อนาคตเค้าน่าจะรุ่งแน่นอน

เพราะอย่างน้อยก็ตื่นเช้าอะ ทุกวันโยมชายจะมารับพระที่เส้นชัย

ตาม way point ของพระ จะต้องมาจบที่บ้านโยมยาย ทุกวัน

แกแก่มากแล้วน่าจะสัก 80-90 ได้ พระลุ้นทุกวัน กลัวแกล้ม

ยังดีที่ลูกสาวแกมาช่วยประคอง ที่นี่เป็นที่เดียวที่พวกเรา สัพพะโร ให้เต็มบท

ตะก่อนเต็มบททุกคน แบบว่าฟิต เกือบกลับมาฉันท์ไม่ทั้น

ขากลับตอนแวะเก็บอาหารที่ฝากไว้ในกะละมังก็เลยกระจายข่าว

"พรุ่งนี้พระไม่มานะ เพราะสิ้นปีกับปีใหม่ หลวงพ่อให้อยู่ที่วัดรอญาติโยมมาทำบุญ"

It's the first ever since I'm here in the big apple.

I didn't have coffee though, I was so happy to see green tea so I had green tea. It would be my last green tea ever that I'll buy from SBUX, the tall for green tea is as short as a espresso shot. I was so disappointed.

Not a very good first impression. I'll try SBUX's wifi when I have time.

หลังจากที่งงๆ กับความสำเร็จของ response essay ไปพักใหญ่ พอเลิกเรียนขากลับเลยแวะซื้ออาหารโปรดมาฉลองให้ตัวเอง ของโปรดจิงๆหาซื้อไม่ได้ (ตำถั่ว พริก 4 เม็ดไม่ใส่ปู ใสปลาร้า แบบต้มเท่านั้นะ + ข้าวเหนียวถุงนึง) เลยต้องกินของโปรดที่รองลงมา เห็นแค่นี่อะนะ ปาไป 9.16 เหรียญ แล้วตก 300 กว่าบาทได้โอ้ววว คิดถึง ฟูจิ เพิ่มตังอีกหน่อยไปกิน ชิ ได้แล้วววว

Today is the first day arriving at the writing class with my confident left at home. Most of the class came back from their long break, so there were only two new first drafts of the response essay that was hand in. One was mine and the other was Jennifer's. Acutually, I didn't like my essay at all. When I Jennifer was asked to read to the class, I was panicking. The essay was bad enough and that I will have to read it to the class made me panic.

I shook baddly when I read my essay. Matthew even asked me if I am alright.

It turns out that most people liked my essay, more than me at least. Matthew even told me that I don't need to change the draft if I want to keep it this way. I can't believe it! Are they kidding me?

I'm looking foward for the grade, after I hand in the 2nd draft.

ตะก่อนเห็นแล้วอย่างกลัวเลย พอหลังๆมาอ่านใหม่ ไม่เห็นมีไรเลยกระจอกมาก แค่วงเล็บมันใหญ่หน่อย แล้วมีพายกะเศษส่วน เอาตูถอนวิชานนี้แทบไม่ทัน เอาเฟ้ย เอาใหม่ "เราจะสู้เพื่อ GMAT"

Essay สองฉบับแรกที่ส่งอาจาร์ยในคอร์ส writing เค้าแจกกลับมาแล้ว จิงๆได้มาตั้งแต่ตอนที่กำลังคั้นมันสมองแต่ง response essay แล้วแหละพอดีเพิ่งนึกขึ้นได้

อันแรกเป็น descriptive essay พอดีตอนนั้นคิดถึงน้องแมวก็เลยเขียนเรื่องน้องแมวได้ A เฉย ส่วนอีกอันเป็น essay ให้เขียนในชั่วโมง เวลามันบีบอะเลยได้แค่ B ก็ถือว่าใช้ได้แล้วแหละ ....เอ....เหรอว่ามันมีแค่ 2 เกรดฟะ???

ส่วนรูปข้างบนไม่ค่อยเกี่ยวเท่าไหร่ ได้จากจากโปรเจ็ค Ubuntu อ่านว่า อุบันตุ มั้ง เป็นลีนุกส์อีกแบบนึก สักวันคงได้ใช้อะนะ ถ้ามันมี Active Sync กะ Outlook อย่างที่ว่ารูปข้างบนมีไว้ประดับเฉยๆ ไม่ได้เกี่ยวอะไร พอดีหลังๆเริ่มเลี่ยนตัวอักษรอะเพราะเขียน Blog จาก Email
